Leadership imperatives that are most pressing are the ability to engage with students. If we are to take Pink, Bolman, Deal, Sergiovanni and even Covey to heart, getting students excited about learning with a view to becoming life long learners is going to require that information is relevant and engaging. Digital natives are connected but are they engaged?

  1. You're raising the bar for your cohort members. Good for you! Excellent start, Renee!

  2. I think a case can be made that DNs are LESS engaged. I have difficulty reconciling that smatterings of text-ese on a one inch screen equals an investment of self, but that's just me.

  3. Yes, I agree that Digital Natives are less engaged lately because we have failed them. We fail them even when we do not know their texting language. We fail them when we make them put their cell phones away instead of using the technology for the better (from Dr. Kendrick's statement). We fail them when we refuse to confront the teachers who refuse to learn how to incorporate the technology they have available in their classrooms. Why are so many of the doc cameras and projectors dusty in our classrooms? Because no one steps up and forces the teachers to learn how to use them (from Brook's comment in class). I agree with Brook, somebody's got to force the teachers to use technology in order for it to be fully integrated in classroom learning. Take away the overhead projectors and lock up the TE's and maybe, like Brook said, the teachers will learn how "not to fail" the Digital Natives.
